While you are looking for a crew for the renovation, this robot is already sanding walls. This is OG1 from the company Origin: it applies putty, sands the surface and primes it. Three finishing stages on one robotic platform.

What OG1 can do

  • moves on three wheels and reaches walls at a height of more than four meters;
  • controls the pressing force of the tool while sanding so that the pressure stays even;
  • according to the developers, it copes with corners, columns and edges of surfaces;
  • the company estimates that the robot works three times faster than a person; this is its own estimate.

What is left to people

The robot is already used on real construction sites, but people are still needed: they help with mapping the site and restocking materials. This is not a fully autonomous crew but a tool that takes over the most monotonous part of finishing.

Money and plans

On October 15 Origin announced that it had raised $20 million. By the end of next year the company plans to deploy 150 robots. Next in the plans are drywall installation and other construction work. For now these are plans, not finished products.
