1X unveils new hands for the NEO home humanoid

Pre-orders for NEO have been open since October 2025, with first home deliveries planned for 2026. In summer, the company introduced a new generation of hands with 25 degrees of freedom. A key detail for buyers: some tasks are performed by NEO under remote operator control—during a session, the robot’s headlight changes color, and users can opt out of sessions.

1X Technologies is accepting pre-orders for NEO—a home humanoid. The Early Access version is $20,000: a $200 deposit is refundable until the robot is ready to ship, with priority delivery in 2026. A $499/month subscription will be available later. NEO will launch first in the US, with plans to expand to other markets from 2027. Colors: beige, gray, and dark brown.

NEO weighs 29.9 kg, lifts up to 68 kg, carries about 25 kg, and operates at just 22 dB. The body is covered with a soft 3D-printed polymer mesh, topped with a machine-washable knit suit. Joints use the 1X Tendon Drive system. Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 5G. The 0.75 kWh battery, according to the company, costs less than $1 of electricity per day.

In July, 1X unveiled a new generation of hands: 25 degrees of freedom—22 in the fingers and palm, 3 in the wrist, up from 22 in the launch version. The hands feature tactile skin, IP68 protection, and ±0.2 mm positioning accuracy. The company promises to equip every serial NEO with these hands, and its own line is designed for up to 10,000 hands per year.

By default, NEO operates autonomously. For unfamiliar tasks, the owner can assign a 1X “expert”—a US-based company operator who remotely guides and trains the robot. Sessions must be scheduled in advance and confirmed by voice or app; during the session, the robot’s side head rings change color. You can set no-go zones, blur faces, and opt out of data sharing for training. Cooking will not be available at launch.

Serial production is underway at the 1X factory in Hayward, California. Launched in April 2026, the plant targets an annual output of 10,000 robots. NEO is currently unavailable to buyers outside the US. Early adopters should note that, initially, some household tasks will be performed with remote operator assistance, making privacy settings as important as technical specs.

The news date 01.08.2026 does not match the event: 1X opened NEO pre-orders on October 28, 2025 (same date as the 1X release and The Robot Report article). New hands were introduced in July 2026. Consider updating the date/title (e.g., “1X unveils new NEO hands and prepares first deliveries”) or note in the lead that pre-orders have been open since October 2025.
